The Lubbock County District Judges on Friday appointed Sara Smith to serve as the county’s interim district clerk.
Smith, who has worked at the Lubbock County District Clerks Office since 2004 will take over for Barbara Sucsy, who is retiring at the end of the year, according to a county news release.
Sucsy first took office in 2003 and was last re-elected in 2018 for a term set to expire on December 2022.
The Texas Government code requires district judges served by the district clerk to appoint an interim to serve the remainder of the term.
The release said Smith, who graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 2004, has filed her candidacy for District Clerk in the 2022 election.
