Arizona @ Utah
Current Records: Arizona 24-2; Utah 11-16
What to Know
The #2 Arizona Wildcats have enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they must head out on the road. The Wildcats and the Utah Utes will face off in a Pac-12 battle at 11 p.m. ET on Thursday at Jon M. Huntsman Center. These two teams are tiptoeing into their contest after sneaking past their previous opponents.
The Oregon Ducks typically have all the answers at home, but on Saturday Arizona proved too difficult a challenge. Arizona narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Oregon 84-81. The overall outcome was to be expected, but Oregon made it more of a game than the oddsmakers had predicted. It was another big night for Arizona’s guard Bennedict Mathurin, who had 24 points and five assists along with seven boards.
Speaking of close games: things were close when Utah and the California Golden Bears clashed on Saturday, but the Utes ultimately edged out the opposition 60-58. Guard Marco Anthony (13 points) was the top scorer for Utah.
This next matchup looks promising for Arizona, who are favored by a full 10.5 points. The odds have been favorable for them against the spread on the road this season, even if it’s been tough sledding overall. They are 6-2-1 ATS in away games but only 14-10-2 all in all.
The wins brought Arizona up to 24-2 and Utah to 11-16. A couple offensive numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Wildcats rank third in college basketball when it comes to points per game, with 84.8 on average. Less enviably, the Utes have only been able to knock down 41.50% percent of their shots, which is the 42nd lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked against Utah.
