The NHL is in the spotlight Saturday afternoon as the Flyers take on the Hurricanes in a battle of two divisional foes.
The two teams have matched up well this season. The Hurricanes have two wins in their three meetings, including an overtime victory, while the Flyers grabbed their lone win over the Hurricanes in the first matchup of the season.
There is much speculation about what the Flyers will do with the trade deadline looming, the biggest name being Claude Giroux. The captain’s contract is up after this season and the team is willing to work out a trade to a contender if Giroux desires. Philadelphia did just extend pending free agent Rasmus Ristolainen with a five-year contract.
The Hurricanes will likely be a quieter team at the deadline, with GM Don Waddell liking the way the team is structured now.
But before the March 21 deadline, the two teams have Saturday’s contest, which will be the last time the two teams meet in the regular season.

What is each team’s record?
Saturday’s matchup features two teams having completely different seasons.
The Hurricanes have been one of the best teams in hockey all season long. They are in first place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 39-12-5 and are tied with the Panthers for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Carolina is 7-1-2 in its last 10 games.
On the other hand, the Flyers have underperformed for the majority of the season. Philadelphia went on a franchise-worse 13-game losing streak in the middle of the season, which came after the team had a 10-game losing streak earlier in the fall. The club is 18-29-10 and are well out of contention for the postseason.
Who leads each team in points?
Sebastian Aho has been tearing it up for the Hurricanes this season. He leads the team in goals (24), assists (34) and points (58). The 24-year-old center also has added 23 points on the man-advantage. Andrei Svechnikov has notched 51 points this season and is one goal behind Aho.
For the Flyers, Cam Atkinson has proved to be one of their best moves from last summer. He leads the team with 42 points in 56 games, holding the team lead in goals with 20. Travis Konecny has the most assists with 24 while Giroux is second on the team in points with 40. The captain will likely be moved by the NHL trade deadline as he will be a free agent after the season.
